Flu Season Tips

The Center For Disease Control website presents this information about flu prevention:

Influenza (the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year.

Flu vaccination is recommended for all children aged 6 months and older. Making healthy choices at school and at home can help prevent the flu and spreading flu to others.

Ask children to:

* Cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when they cough or sneeze—have them throw the tissue away after they use it.

* Wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after they cough or sneeze. If water is not near, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

* Avoid touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.

For more information about flu prevention, visit http://www.cdc.gov/flu/

Parent Pick Up Procedures:

Our parent pick up procedures are in place to prevent any safety concerns. Students are to be dropped off and picked up in the one and only car loop, which is located in the 2nd parking lot on the clinic side. For students’ safety, please pick up and drop off in a single file line. In addition to the new car loop, please keep in mind that only right turns are allowed out of the parking lot. Please refrain from parking in the lot to pick up students as this causes them to have to cross in front of moving traffic and is a safety issue. Thank you for your cooperation.

Important Reminder to all Incoming 7th Graders

Immunizations protect our children from many childhood diseases. These immunizations are free at the Health Department, or you can get them through your child’s Pediatrician.

Immunizations are not just a good idea - they are required by Florida law for all students attending school.

Remember, all students going into 7th grade must have a Tdap booster. If your child has already received the Tdap booster, be sure to send/bring the updated shot records (blue card) to the school. If he/she still needs the Tdap booster, make plans to get the shot over the summer and send/bring the updated blue card to the school. It is also a good idea to keep a copy in your records.

Your 7th grader will NOT receive their schedule when they come to register if they have not received this booster.

Attention Parents:
Important Information About Absences

There is a concern with eSembler and how it is listing absences. eSembler looks at an absence as a student not being in class. Therefore, if the student is excused, unexcused, field trip, school function, band, awards ceremony or student incentive day’s eSembler marks it as an absence. At the end of the year perfect attendance is not rewarded to those students that have “U” (unexcused) absences.

Need help logging on to eSembler?

Click here for a step-by-step guide to logging into eSembler to view your child's grades.

Recycling

HMS will participating in the county wide Battery Recycling Contest this year. Please collect household batteries (AA, AAA, C, 9-volt, and D) from your students. Cash prizes will be given to the top ten schools that collect the highest poundage of batteries.

We will also be recycling cell phones and printer cartridges. HMS will received $1.25 for each cell phone. We have a cell phone drop in the front office.

More information is available on the ways that our schools, students, and employees are supporting recycling by going to the Pasco County Schools recycling webpage.
