Sunshine State Young Readers Award

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. The SSYRA committee is comprised of 20 qualified school librarians located throughout the state of Florida, subdivided into committees for each group. This year there has been a new division added to the program, the Orange Blossom List” is a reading list that focuses on non-fiction books. The Orange Blossom list is part of the broader Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) program, which also includes lists for fiction books in different grade levels. The Orange Blossom list aims to encourage reading and provide students with access to a variety of non-fiction titles. Please encourage your child to read these and log their minutes on Beanstack! They can take short comprehension quizzes online and earn ‘Brag Tags’ and ‘Dolphin Dollars’ for each book they read. There are 3 celebrations throughout the year based on student progress. Happy Reading!
